This was the first use in 1813 of a 'Streifkorps' , small, highly mobile raiding parties, used to disrupt the rear areas of the French & Allied armies. Napoleon was particularly annoyed by their actions and successes. The 'French' in this action were a battalion of Westfalians moving up as reinforcements.
