Summary
A hard fought, night engagement - Dutch Rear Admiral Doorman's naval squadron approached the Japanese forces moving towards Java but were intercepted by a small but well handled Japanese destroyer squardon. Casualties, high on both sides, included the sinking of the Dutch destroyer 'Piet Hein'.
