Summary

The Sardinians held a steep ridge over the Ellero river crossing but the French pinned their centre and sent a brigade round the Sardinian right flank. A separate French force approaching from St. Michele entered the battle on the Sardinians left flank. The Sardinians, to avoid being surrounded, broke and ran.
This battle finally separated the Austrians and the Sardinians. The Sardinians now sued for peace with Bonaparte, and the Austrians withdrew from the region..
